Rajasthan State Eligibility Test (SET) - Key Information

Here are the important points related to the Rajasthan State Eligibility Test:

1. Exam Conducting Body: The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), Ajmer, conducts this examination. It is held to determine eligibility for the position of Lecturer.

4. Eligibility Criteria:

   • Candidates must have obtained at least 55% marks in a postgraduate degree or equivalent examination from UGC-recognized universities/institutions in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences, Computer Science and Applications, Earth Science, Population Studies, Education etc.
   • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Physically Handicapped (PH) categories must have obtained at least 50% marks in a postgraduate degree or equivalent examination.
   • Candidates who have appeared or are going to appear in the postgraduate degree (final year) examination and whose result is awaited can also apply. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and will be considered eligible for the post of Lecturer only if they pass their postgraduate degree examination with at least 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PH candidates).
   • Such candidates must complete their PG degree examination with the required percentage of marks within two years from the date of the SET result, failing which they will be considered ineligible.
   • Ph.D. degree holders who had completed their Master’s level examination by September 19, 1991, will get a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks to appear in SET (i.e., 55% to 50%).
   • Candidates are required to appear in the examination only in their postgraduate degree subject. If a candidate's subject is not included in the list of SET subjects, they can appear in UGC NET/UGC-CSIR NET.

5. Validity of Certificate: The SET certificate for the post of Lecturer is valid only for that particular state and is valid for life. Lecturers can be recruited from the SET qualified candidates as per the procedures and rules laid down by universities/colleges/recruitment agencies.

6. Exam Scheme:

   • The examination will consist of three papers. All three papers will have only objective-type questions.
   • Paper-I: Will be of a general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and the candidate's general awareness. It will consist of 60 multiple-choice questions of 2 marks each, out of which the candidate has to answer any 50. If a candidate attempts more than 50 questions, only the first 50 attempted will be evaluated.
   • Paper-II and III: Will consist of objective-type questions based on the subject chosen by the candidate. Each question will be of 2 marks.

8. Minimum Qualifying Marks:

   • Only those candidates who obtain the minimum required marks separately in each paper will be considered for the final preparation of the result.
   • From the candidates who have qualified in Stage I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the total marks obtained in all three papers by such candidates.
   • Only the top 15% of candidates from the merit list (for each subject and prescribed category) will be declared SET qualified for the post of Lecturer.
   • This qualifying criterion is as per UGC norms, however, the decision of the Mediation Committee will be final.

9. Additional Information:

   • There will be no negative marking in the examination.
   • If a candidate does not appear in Paper-I, they will not be allowed to appear in Paper-II and Paper-III.
   • Visually Handicapped (VH) candidates will be given an extra thirty minutes separately for Paper-I and Paper-II. Forty-five minutes extra time will be given for Paper-III. They will also be provided with the services of a writer who will be a graduate in a subject other than the candidate's subject. Such Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates who are not in a position to write with their own hands can also avail these services by requesting the Center Superintendent in writing (at least one week before the date of SET). Other physically handicapped candidates will not be provided with extra time and the facility of a writer.
   • In case of any discrepancy between the English and Hindi versions, the questions in the English version will be considered final.

10. Syllabus of Examination:

    • The syllabus for all question papers will be the same as the UGC/CSIR, NET examination.
    • For science subjects like Life Science, Chemical Science, Mathematical Science, and Physical Science, Paper I will be as per the UGC-NET syllabus, Paper II will be from the syllabus of section (B) of Paper I of CSIR, and Paper III will be from the syllabus of Paper II of CSIR.

11. Age Limit: There is no upper age limit.

13. Examination Centers:

    • The examination will be conducted at the following centers: Ajmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, and Udaipur.
    • The Commission has the right to allot any center other than the selected center without assigning any reason.
    • Admit cards and attendance sheets will be uploaded on the Commission's website before the examination and candidates can download it and appear in the examination.
    • Candidates should affix their recent passport-size photograph (all photographs should be from the same negative) at the designated place in the application form and sign over the photograph after affixing it. In addition, the photograph should be duly attested by the Head of the Department or a Gazetted Officer. Candidates should bring any additional photo identity card along with the admit card.
    • If a candidate is allotted the same center for the SET examination where he is working, he should immediately inform the Centre Superintendent and the Commission for re-allotment.
