UNIT-I:
Definition and General idea regarding Gram, Moorchana, Prabhandh, Dhatu, Alapti, Swasthan-Niyam, Ragaalap, Rupkaalap, Nayak, Gayak, Kalavant, Vaggyakar.
'That' and its importance in Music. Classification of 'That' according to Pt. Bhatkhande and Pt. Vyankat Mukhi.
Evolution & development of Raga.
Types of Scales- Diatonic Chromatic and equally tempered Scale. Comparative study of Hindustani and Western Scales, Division of Scales according to Cent and Severt, Frequencies of different Scales.
UNIT-II:
Origin of Music. Evolution and development of Indian Music during ancient, Medieval and Modern Period.
General idea of the forms of Vedic Music.
Contribution of scholars to Indian Music and their Textual Tradition - Narad, Bharat, Dattil, Matang, Sharangdev, Nanyadev, Lochan, Ramamatya, Pundrik-Vitthal, Somanath, Pt. Damodar, Ahobal, Bhavbhatt, Hriday Narayan Dev, Shriniwas, Vyankatmukhi, Pt. Bhatkhanade, Pt.V.D. Paluskar, Pt. Omkarnath Thakur, Acharya K.C.D. Brihaspati & Dr. Premlata Sharma.
UNIT-III:
General Idea of main Classical Dances of India- Bharatnatyam, Kathak. Kathakali, Manipuri, Oddissi, Kuchipudi and Mohiniattam.
Study of Geeti-Vani & Gharanas of Dhruvpad and Khayal.
Knowledge of Vrinda-Gaan, it's evolution and new trends in Vrind-Gaan.
General Knowledge of Karnatak music.
UNIT-IV:
Anatomy and physiology of Human throat and ear, Human Voice and it's technique, Knowledge about voice culture.
Elementary theory of sound.
Applications of general principles of Aesthetics to Music. Raag & Ras.
UNIT-V:
Place of Music in Fine Arts.
Explain the theories of learning & it's application in Indian Classical Music.
Study of Indian Classical Music Education system from Ancient to Modern period with special reference to Guru-Shishya Parampara.
