Regulation of development- nature/nurture; growth & development; maturation and learning.
Stages of life span development: Prenatal, Infancy, early, middle and late childhood- characteristics, developmental tasks and challenges of each stage.
Unit-II: Theories of Child Development-
Theory- Breif knowledge of following theories.
Psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud.
Psychosocial theory of Erik Erikson.
Field theory of Kurt Lewin.
Social learning theory- Bandura
Learning theories of Pavlov,Watson and Skinner
Cognitive theory of Jean Piaget.
Need theory of Abraham Maslow.
Ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner.
Multiple Intelligent Theory of Gardener.
Unit-III: Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)-
History of Early Childhood Education (ECE) in India and in the West.
Major goals and philosophies of ECE: Montessori, Froebel, Dewey, project head start; Pre-basic education, Tara bai Mudak, Ravinder Nath Tagore, Nai Talim by Mahatma Gandhi.
Progressive approach and active learning; play way method, kindergarten.
Early Childhood Care and Education- programmes at regional, national and international level.
Early childhood care and development: emerging trends, issues and researches.
Unit-IV: Developmentally Challenged Individuals and Welfare Programmes and Policies-
Meaning and Definition of Developmental disabilities.
Definition, causes, types, treatment, and rehabilitation of children with Neurological disorders- Intellectual disability, Autism, Down's syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, Cerebral palsy, Epilepsy.
Definition, causes, types, treatment, and rehabilitation of children with Sensory disabilities- Visual impairment, Auditory impairment, Speech impairment.
Definition, causes, types, treatment, and rehabilitation of children with Learning disabilities
Inclusive, integrated and special schools. Programs, policies and acts of children with developmental disabilities- special focus to New Education Policy.
Unit-V: Current Issues in Child Development-
Child Rights- Policies and programmes- The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), The National Rural Health Mission Scheme, The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE), The National Child Labour Projects (NCLPs).
